Will I get to steer the boat?
Of course, if you wish. Our philosophy is that we want all our guests who wish to helm the yacht to have that opportunity. A thing seen is easily forgotten; a thing done is never forgotten.

The feeling that you get as you hear the hiss of the water swishing past while you are on the helm actually controlling the direction of the boat is something few people will forget. It is a magical, almost rejuvenating experience, and puts you close to nature.

Our skippers are trained to help you understand the basics very quickly, so any feeling of uncertainty or trepidation you may feel will be quickly replaced by exhilaration. It is an experience to savour, with plenty of photo opportunities too…

Of course, if you would prefer not to indulge yourself on the helm, you may simply sit back, relax, and let the beautiful sights of Auckland slide by.

How much will the sailboat tip over?
Generally our sailboats will not heel more than 10-15 degrees.

Many racing yachts or sailboats can often heel 35 to 45 degrees and even beyond in heavy wind conditions, especially if they are carrying too much sail. However, our sailboats are fitted with stronger shorter masts and smaller sails than a race boat would carry. They are also designed to be relatively broad in the beam, and stable. These factors work to ensure complete safety in our environment, and in particular, help prevent the boat from being pressed significantly by the wind.

There are controls aboard which the skipper and crew can use to make the sails even smaller (reefing) and to ease the sails out (sheets and travelers) to spill any unwanted wind. As a result, our vessels rarely if ever heel over more than 10-15 degrees.
